With the cost of food continuously going up, people are looking for ways to help cut the bill while still keeping their family fed. If you use your skills, you may be amazed at the different things people will pay you with, including food!
Bartering is an ancient and well-used method of exchanging goods and services. Before there was printed or coined money, people would trade their time doing tasks such as helping with the harvest in exchange for a portion of what they gathered. If you have specialized equipment such as a pressure canner or smoker, people may actually approach you for an exchange. They may have a surplus of food but no way to really preserve it and bring it to you because you have the skills and equipment. Win-win!

If you start to think about it, I am sure you can come up with several ways that you can use your skills and time to get the things you need. Whether that is filling the freezer and cupboard, filling the woodshed, of getting the tin roofing you need for a new chicken coop that is laying around in your neighbor’s yard. With a little imagination, it is amazing what you can get by spending time instead of money. When you use your skills to fill the cupboard, you free money up to buy the things you can’t make yourself!
