Homeowner Association rules, city, county, or development rules…there are many places where raising even a single chicken can get you in the proverbial hot water. There is an alternative though: Quails!

Consider quail farming instead of chickens! There are numerous reasons why they may be a viable alternative, even if your HOA has strict rules against chickens. Quail eggs are considered a delicacy and can sell for much more than chicken eggs. Some people raise a modest flock of quail and sell the eggs to local restaurants. They are also a much smaller bird, which equals savings to you. There is less space needed, less feed, and less clean up.

Quail are much more quiet, too! Even if you have a male in the mix, they are considerably quieter than chickens are – even if you don’t have a rooster! They start laying eggs much sooner than chickens and grow quickly. On top of all that, quail are really fantastic for your garden. These little soldiers will patrol the area and attack anything that comes in that doesn’t belong!
