DIY seed pots are something that can be made any time of year and can even save you money since you won’t need to buy ‘sprouting pots’ at planting time.
This is a fun little project that is extremely inexpensive, quick and easy to do and is perfect for doing as a family. DIY seed pots are something that can be made any time of year and can even save you money since you won’t need to buy ‘sprouting pots’ or those little mesh covered tabs that soak up water.
The daily newspaper is a great medium for the garden: it breaks down easily, adds some nutrition back to the soil and can be used to not only sprout the seed, when it’s time to transplant, you just plant the whole thing! No need to carefully slide the soil lump out of the pot and hope there’s no damage to the roots or plant itself. The moisture of the soil surrounding the pot will help it break down even faster and the roots will easily grow through it.
On top of all that, you are helping to recycle and reuse. You are helping to add some organic material back to the soil which will help the plants, too! Finally, once you have made these, it’s not a big step to make your own seed tapes out of newspaper, too.
